My Artistic Inclinations
Art or an inclination to creativity seems to run in our family. Dad
was a self taught water colour artist whose subjects were
primarily landscapes and aviation. He also had other creative talents
which he put to good use whenever the need arose. Many of my
best Christmas toys were made by him. Mom made many
sweaters, hats, scarves, among other things, and is a fine writer.
With such parental guidance it
would not be surprising if some of it rubbed off on the children.
Fiona, my older sister, is an excellent
artist and writer, while Kate, my younger sister, has yet to tap into her
creative side in a big way. As for myself, I have dipped my paws
into all facets of creativity. I have tried painting with water colours and acrylics,
soapstone carving, wood carving, writing and composing. I tend
to be rather impatient with my progress in whatever medium I am
working though I find if I stick with it the results are rewarding.
Some of dad's originals are still for sale and can be seen at the Topsail
Art Gallery on 13 Woodpath Rd. in Chamberlains, Conception Bay, Newfoundland. There are
