Professional Experience
OXFORD INTERNATIONAL
[under contract to Play by Play San Antonio TX]
Oracle DBA (Migration to Oracle Applications 10.7 P16 on 7.3.2 Pentium/NT &
DecAlpha/NT 4)
- Transferred some Unix environment expertise to DecAlpha/NT 4 environment: clone
database, apply patch, copy files from one server to another server.
- Acquired Oracle Application patchset expertise: found and downloaded the latest
patchsets to be applied; use pro-active techniques to solve problems before calling Oracle
support. Documented patch process. Created spreadsheet for patchsets and tars/patches.
AMBIT TECHNOLOGY (formerly Contract Solutions)
[under contract to Bradlees, Inc. Braintree MA - Boston]
Oracle DBA (Six database instances, HP-UX)
- Created script used to backup archive logs every two hours.
- Diagnosed and fixed problems with backups i.e. discovered file permissions incorrect on
adsm install; verified SQL*Backtrack stored archived logs on adsm system by running
point-in-time recovery followed by full restore of previous backup; added entry to .rhosts
file to allow root to remsh from one machine to an oracle73 account on another machine.
- Upgraded SQL*Backtrack from 2.2 to 2.3.0.6 on six instances.
- Supported three developers who were using ERwin ERX 3.5.
- Prepared database for full import by dropping & recreating two tablespaces [index
& data].
CENTENNIAL ASSOCIATES (affiliated with Oxford & Associates):
[under contract to Augusta State University Augusta GA]
Oracle DBA (Five database instances, AIX/HP-UX)
- Trained newly promoted staff member to be Oracle DBA.
- Repaired database having missing datafile by dropping and creating RBS tablespace plus
rollback segments.
- Cloned production database by copying files and running create controlfile
script generated by SQL command.
- Created two databases: determined Unix volume space requirements for mount points, as
well as datafile sizes and locations. Modified .ora files (init.ora and config.ora). Wrote
scripts to create database, run Oracle scripts, and create tablespaces. Used export/import
to transfer data. Created and started SQL*NET listeners.
MAXIMGROUP Information Systems Consultants:
[under contract to Gaylord Entertainment Nashville TN]
Oracle DBA (Production database four microprocessors, 2 MB memory, mirrored
RAID 1/0)
- Found source of performance problems by examining statisics on memory, space, disk and
controller I/O statistics (disk I/O bottleneck aggravated by objects having multiple
extents, shortage of library cache memory causing packages with high disk I/O requirements
to be swapped in and out of memory, as well as running batch jobs during day with OLTP
transactions).
- Applied patches to Oracle Application and Client Server.
OXFORD & ASSOCIATES:
[under contract to Scientific Atlanta - Atlanta GA]
Oracle DBA (Seven Databases: 1-130 Gigabytes)
- Refreshed development databases quickly by copying files from test databases followed by
running create control file script. Create control file script was generating using
alter database backup control file to trace from test database.
- Created database objects in Oracle and SAP for SAP Serial Tracking application.
- Created snapshots, database links, and snapshot logs to move data from SAP/Oracle system
to datawarehouse. Data was to be analyzed by Business Analyzer (aka Business Objects).
- Created database objects by moving developer scripts from PVSC [PC version control
software] to server and running scripts on Oracle as SAPPRD.
- Documented my projects. Client appreciated documentation when used to answer questions
and bring new developer up to speed quickly. Client requested enhancements i.e. show flow
of data. Eventually documents served as communication tool for management, developers, and
other DBAs.
MAXIMGROUP Information Systems Consultants:
[under contract to GE-Harris Energy Systems - Melbourne FL]
Oracle DBA (Eight Databases: 5-30 Gigabytes)
- Documented system/database administration procedures and policies. Provided Oracle DBA
information to client IT manager. Enabled him to leverage 18 years experience from another
technology to Oracle and make wise decisions i.e. "High-Speed Database Backup on Sun
Systems" Included report of testing where backup transfer rates of one terabyte per
hour to tape were achieved. Wrote paper: "Starting Up and Shutting Down the Oracle
Instances and Listeners" which traced how the Unix inittab file calls
startup/shutdown script(s) based on the running state of the machine. Discovered current
value of LD_LIBRARY_PATH may allow wrong libX3.so.3 file to be used for linking. Developed
Backup strategy spreadsheet for eight databases varying in size from 5-30 Gb.
- Performed database exports and imports (size: five gigabyte database).
- Created two databases.
- Started up and shut down the database instances, SQL*net listeners, and Concurrent
Managers.
- Applied and maintained log of patches/TARS.
- Installed software (Oracle 7.3.3 RDBMS Server, Oracle Applications 10.7, 7.3.3.4 patch)
on development Oracle 7.3.3 Server under mentorship of guru Oracle DBA consultant.
- Wrote Unix shell scripts: monitor_am.S to monitor database instances including
overextended tables and indexes, database space, as well as calling other scripts i.e.
modified utlbstat and utlestat scripts. Produced report including: count (could produce
list also) of Concurrent Request logs and outputs that exceeded one Megabyte, was over 30
days old (by instance), as well as how to purge these files.
COMSYS Information Technologies: [under contract to TOPS/FINAST]
Oracle DBA (44 databases)
- Created spreadsheets to communicate understanding, encourage feedback, & involve
manager in the process.
- Tuned data storage: wrote & used SQL reports to show 1) objects with multiple
extents, 2) space used versus space allocated. Resized objects by altering storage specs
for existing table & index scripts; broadcast altered scripts to all databases; added
files to tablespaces; rebuilt tables & indexes using export, drop, import.
- Eliminated duplicates on large tables by exporting table, dropping table, building
unique index, importing table.
- Established and implemented process to coalesce free space. Wrote & ran script to
shrink rollback segments having greater than MAX extents.
- Served as resource; trained person to take over my responsibilities.
INTERACTIVE GROUP, INC./JIT Note: Interactive Group purchased JIT product line from
Fourth Shift (below)
Systems Administrator, Technical Services
- Managed builds for software patch tapes; wrote/maintained shell scripts; developed
interface for production installation script. Supported customers installing patch builds.
- Planned and implemented migration from Oracle V6.0.36 to V7.1.4.
FOURTH SHIFT/JIT [Note: Sold JIT product to Interactive Group]
Customer Support Analyst -> Admin/Tech
