Northern Gannets nest in large colonies at several locations around
Newfoundland. They can be seen most easily at Cape St. Mary's, but also nest on
Baccalieu Island and Funk Island.
Great Skua is a predacious seabird that is usually seen offshore. This is
an immature bird that was photographed in St. John's in December - a highly
unusual occurance.
Greater Shearwaters (hagdowns, bauks) visit Newfoundland's coastal
waters every summer. They do not breed here - they breed in the South Atlantic.
They rely heavily on capelin for food.
Northern Fulmars (noddies) breed in small numbers at a few
Newfoundland locations. They can be seen year-round.
