  cloon2.JPG (132575 bytes)Common Loon (Diver) is indeed common throughout most of Newfoundland. It nests on inland lakes in summer, and can be found around the coast on the ocean in winter.

grebe.jpg (91785 bytes) Pied-billed Grebe (Hell-diver) is an uncommon but regular visitor, especially in fall and early winter. It frequents inland bodies of fresh water that have margins with emergent vegetation. It dives frequently and rapidly. Photo © Karen Chappell
