Gushue Gold

(The Islander – Bruce Moss)

Darrin Feehan & Annette Osborne Feehan

I’m a Newfoundlander born and bred

And I’ll be one till I die

The Gushue rink brought home the gold

And that’s the reason why

They had to beat Team Finland

They had such great command

Now we’re so proud that we can say

That they’re from Newfoundland

Brad started down this road to gold

In Moncton that’s the place

He held his head high even though

He did not reach first place

One thing that he did not know

Russ Howard would begin

To help to raise his spirits up

To be on top again

Mark Nichols is from Labrador

Mike Adam is from there too

They’re life long friends who love to curl

On the team we call Gushue

Jamie Korab is the lead

He hails from Harbour Grace

He loves to play this Golden game

It’s tattooed on his face

Mike Adam has the biggest heart

That you have ever seen

He stepped aside to let Russ play

To realize their dream

Toby is the master

With harmonica in hand

He coached his team to beat them all

On top is where they stand

When Brad and crew went to the Trials

Some said they had no chance

If Canada’s to win a gold

Another should advance

Brad played them all

He would not fall

Russ Howard took command

Now Canada has set its sights

On the boys from Newfoundland

The final game against Markku

Brad’s heart began to race

Six yellow stones sat in the house

One more he tried to place

As he threw his final stone

His heart beat through his chest

He knew that he had won the gold

We now call them the best

When Finland said that we concede

Brad gathered with his team

They hugged each other on the ice

They’re eyes began to gleam

Brad stood a spell

He grabbed a cell

One voice he’d hear alone

Looking to a camera said

Mom pick up the phone

I’m a Newfoundlander born and bred

And I’ll be one till I die

The Gushue rink brought home the gold

And that’s the reason why

They had to beat Team Finland

They had such great command

Now we’re so proud that we can say

That they’re from Newfoundland

Now we’re so proud that we can say

That they’re from Newfoundland
