Darrin Feehan

Darrin Feehan was born in St. John’s, NL., but he grew up in Outer Cove.
His family moved there when he was 11.

In 1999, along with Jim Carroll & Bruce Mesh, Darrin formed Síochána.

His favorite music has always been Irish, but he developed a taste for all genres such as country,
blues, jazz, rock and roll, classical and bluegrass. Darrin has always loved the music of the
40’s and 50’s especially the “Big Band” era. Some of his favorite artists who helped develop
his love of music are the Carlton Showband, Son’s of Erin & Ryan’s Fancy.

He learned the accordion at age 6 and was heavily influenced by his father
Frank Feehan, who was a master accordion player. He also plays a little guitar,
mandolin and the bodhran.

In the early 1980’s, he was part of a five member band, known simply as “The Police Band”.
They played mostly for charity and for the seniors, especially at Christmas. One other member of
that early band was Charlie Shallow.

In 1987, he joined the Quidi Vidi Ceilidh Band, replacing “Skipper” Jim Ring on the accordion.
“Skipper” passed away two weeks later. The band stayed together for about a year before disbanding.

For two years, beginning in 2001, Darrin was a member of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra Philharmonic Choir, singing in the bass section.

Darrin now lives in St. John’s with his wife Annette and his four children
Chad, Molly, Anna and Claire.
