Thank you for your interest in our Labrador hunting trips. This remote area is still untouched by European Settlement and affords a truly remote arctic experience.
THE HUNT:
First, you will be pleased to find you have not wasted your time. All our hunts are for trophy class animals and we guarantee 100% opportunity to take a real trophy. We harvest very few animals from a large and remote area thus ensure we have many large mature animals to hunt every year. These areas are thick with big game and we have enjoyed 100% success on trophy stag caribou, and 90% on bear . All hunting packages include, Barren Ground Black Bear hunting and world class Arctic Char and Lake Trout fishing at no extra cost. Generally one day of traveling is involved - usually a morning to get flown in to the lodge and an evening to get flown out of the lodge to the airport or hotel. See below for details.
The licence bag limit is TWO caribou per hunter. Caribou are hunted by foot on the open ground and a spotting scope or top quality binoculars are a must. Walking is very easy in both locations and hunters need not be in top physical shape. These animals tend not to be too jumpy and rely on numbers and open distance for protection. Lots of glassing and less walking produce the largest stags. The season starts in August and ends the first week of Sept. (for us). We hunt the animals on their late summer range when they are ready to shed their velvet and DON'T hunt them during their meandering migration so we ALWAYS HAVE LOTS OF CARIBOU TO HUNT Guaranteed! Many world record class animals have been taken at our locations.
The licence bag limit for black bear is one bear per hunter. Bear is hunted on foot without baits. Lots of nerve is required to hunt these - on average - 250-400 lbs animals. Occasionally a bear is added to a caribou hunt and the license is simply purchased at the lodge. Many clients run into bear by accident while hunting caribou. This happens EVERY week as the area has a very healthy bear population which migrates to the berry producing areas in the fall. Purchasing the license up front as part of the package is recommended as we will only bait bears by demand and only allow shooting at large mature male bears (it is illegal to harvest adult females with cubs). Last year we had to dispose of two problem bears - they are simply that plentiful during the fall berry season. Stalking bear on open berry fields. This is quite challenging and rewarding. These wary animals are no fool's hen but are regularly seen feeding in the alpine regions and few days go by without accidentally crossing ones path. This barren ground black bear hunting is highly recommended - especially as a combination hunt with caribou. We take our combination hunts very seriously. Because of the grizzly bear's domination over the circumpolar regions, the location of our lodges provide the only populations in the WORLD of barren ground black bear!
FISHING:
Char catches run from 10-50 fish per day with the char averaging about 6 lbs. Twenty pound class Arctic Char are less common and average about one or two per person per trip. Char are awesome on a fly rod! Char are very similar to atlantic salmon in fighting ability and are rated as the best fighting fresh-water game fish in the world by Mc Clane's Fishing Encyclopedia. The hot red and pink colored Pixie lures by Blue Fox work best on Char when using spinning gear. The action is usually non-stop with hundreds of fish in many of the river's pools. Fly fishers will find that bright red, orange, and pink streamers work well, as do various weighted minnow and krill imitations. Both sinking tip and floating lines are recommended for fly fishing.
Combination hunts are our specialty. We have selected the locations for our camps very carefully and specifically for this reason. Most clients join us for a combination hunt. This makes the trip more economical, exciting, and enjoyable. For those interested in the ultimate combination hunt bring your fishing rod and lots of 12lbs test line. Don't worry about dull evenings or bagging your animal early in the week. Our clients tell us that our hunting is only surpassed by our fishing! The first run of large char typically starts the last week of July but August month is best for overall fishing.
GUIDES:
All our hunts are based on a one to two hunter to guide ratio. All our guides are seasoned registered professionals with many years experience.
THE TERRAIN:
Northern Labrador's glacier carved arctic valleys and 4000 foot plateaus defy description - but the walking is usually dry, flat, and easy going. Comfortable, yet waterproof footwear is a must. FLIES - these critters have ruined more arctic trips than any other factor. When considering the construction site of our camps this was a key factor when we picked our locations.

Even if you decide to book elsewhere PLEASE feel free to email me about any other competitor. I pride myself on being a "straight shooter" and may be able to supply additional information to you (either good or bad). While I am positive you would thoroughly enjoy a hunt with us, it is a good bet to stay within Labrador if you are looking for trophy caribou. But, beware of outfitters quoting cheap trophy hunts - there simply aren't any (or so our regular customers tell us). Many outfitters operate road-side camps accessible by locals, or are not serious hunters themselves and hire shoddy guides - beware. Avoid Quebec and migratory hunts for Quebec-Labrador caribou - or so our clients tell us.
We require an $800US deposit which is only refundable if a replacement for your reservation can be found. A total of 50% of the balance is required by April 1 and the remainder is payable by July 1st. Should your trip be delayed due to weather then rescheduling is always offered.
