There were two one-room schools built. They were originally know as the United School and the Anglican School.
St. Aidan’s Church of England was built in the early 1900’s
Robert Oakley started the United Church around 1903 and the first services were held in 1905 . This church was torn down and replaced by a new and more convenient one in 1978. The new church is called the Alton United
In 1950 the old schools were torn down and replaced by two new ones. The Anglican School was replaced by a three room school. In 1966 the high school students were bussed to Clarenville. In 1967 the two Port Blandford schools had a joint school system. Today there is no school here.

St. Aidan’s Church of England was built in the early 1900’s , but services were held in the school chapel from 1900 to 1918 with Arthur Sharpe both school teacher and lay reader. The church’s cornerstone was laid by Bishop Hones on August 29, 1907. the church was officially opened on June 19, 1918 by Rev. Augustus C Bagley and H. W. Facey.
The church was built by Edward Fitzgerald of Red Cliff.

In 1911 there were 92 families consisting of 229 Church of England, 174 United, 60 Salvation Army, 1 Roman Catholic and 1 Presbyterian.
