Flytying in Newfoundland and Labrador, for trout and for Atlantic salmon, continues to evolve from the early English standard pattern featherwings to present day hairwing wet fly patterns together with all manner of dry flies, nymphs and spun hair bug creations. One of the highlights of our traditional outdoor freedoms has been our access to excellent trout and salmon angling. In turn that contributed to the development of a highly skilled flytying population throughout our province. This unique part of the Newfoundland and Labrador lifestyle is changing as our Atlantic salmon stocks continue to decline.
The Humber River (photo background) is a world class Atlantic salmon and trout river made famous and immortalized by outstanding sports fishermen like Lee Wulff.
