D Pelley Limited opened their first grocery store in 1920, on what is know today as Water Street South. In 1936 they built a new store and sold groceries, clothing, furniture, lumber and hardware. This store was built in the middle of Port Blandford. Pelley’s sold the store to Ted Parrot of Gander. He used it as a grocery store for one year, then renovated it into a club, which he named the Bivauac. Two years later he sold it to Charlie Harris, who is the owner today. Charlie changed the name to The Village Green. It is presently closed. In 1942 Roland Greening opened his first grocery store, and in 1956 he opened a larger store, R.E. Powell owned a grocery and hardware store but is now closed.
